Researcher Jorge Mira from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) and the Wireless Galicia team, two of the project’s partner entities, are representing ATLANTIC SUNSET at FITUR. During the event, they met with delegations from Visit Norway, as well as Algarve and Sintra (Portugal), to move forward on the project’s upcoming milestones.
The European ATLANTIC SUNSET project was present at FITUR, one of the leading international showcases for the tourism sector. The initiative aims to highlight the westernmost locations along Europe’s Atlantic coast where the continent’s final sunsets can be observed.
The project was represented at the event by researcher Jorge Mira of the University of Santiago de Compostela and the Wireless Galicia team, two of the partner organizations in the European consortium.
During the fair, the project leaders held strategic meetings with delegations from Visit Norway and with representatives from Algarve and Sintra (both in Portugal), with the goal of advancing the next phases of the program. Norway and Portugal, together with Spain, are the only territories on Europe’s western coastline where the continent’s last sunsets can be seen. Within this framework, the project plans to install new signage in these countries, as well as in other nationally significant sites in Ireland and France.
ATLANTIC SUNSET’s presence at FITUR also highlighted the growing role of science in tourism. In addition to his involvement in ATLANTIC SUNSET, Jorge Mira took part in FITUR with a presentation on the total solar eclipse in August—an exceptional scientific event that can be observed particularly well from some of the locations included in the ATLANTIC SUNSET network.
